In fifth grade gifted math, your child will be taught fifth grade math standards. Your child will be fully supported and taught in a developmentally-appropriate way. Your child will be exposed to a variety of strategies, but will always be encouraged to use the strategy that works best for him or her. In other words, it is not expected that your child achieve mastery of every addition strategy, just the one that gives him or her the most success.

1. Multiply and divide multi-digit whole numbers, including using a standard algorithm.

2. Add and subtract fractions and decimals with procedural fluency.

3. Develop an understanding of the coordinate plane and plotting pairs of numbers in the first quadarant.

4. Extend geometric reasoning to include volume.
