Characters are the people or animals a story is about.

Setting is where and when the story takes place.

Plot is what happens in the story.

We can use a story map to help organize the events in a story.



When we read about certain characters, we think about what they do, say, want, and feel. This helps us understand what kind of person that character is.

We can use a character map to help organize what we know about a character.



When we look at a character's feelings, actions, and motivations, we can think of the character's traits. Traits are words that we can use to describe what kind of person a character is.
